Artist Introduction
Combining the art of tea, shibari, and modular synthesizer performance, the second-generation tea artist, having apprenticed to learn the distinctive 'Dual Cup Brewing' tea art of Meishan in Chiayi, collaborates for the first time with shibari artist SOA. This unique collaboration blends the mystical Eastern tea ceremony with the culture of shibari, presenting the sacredness of traditional rituals in an alternative manner. Simultaneously, it stirs the audience by projecting the unique sensations evoked when observing the bound body of another, symbolizing a certain sensuality in the dynamics of ropes and the flow of tea.
The originally static art of tea, when combined with the fluidity of shibari, manifests as a dance of the body – at times dynamic and expressive, at times returning to stillness within the binds. Accompanied by contemporary live improvisation on a modular synthesizer, the mechanical sounds complement the tension in the performer's body, synchronized with the rhythmic release of the machine. Like the melding of ice and fire, this performance elevates into another temporal state, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in a different realm.
The body, a sanctum of poetic grace.
